About the event
Fusion energy is moving from experimental demonstration towards commercial deployment. However, Europe’s ability to turn its scientific and engineering strengths into a competitive commercial industry will depend on whether it can build a resilient, investable and scalable supply chain.
Bringing together fusion developers, manufacturers, investors, policymakers, regulators and research organisations from across the UK and Europe, the Fusion Energy Forum will examine what must happen now to prepare industry for future deployment. Discussions will focus on creating a bankable market, scaling Europe’s industrial capacity and developing regulatory and cross-border frameworks that support commercial growth.
Agenda
Panel I: Creating a Bankable Market for Fusion
Building credible deployment pipelines and greater visibility of future demand
The role of governments as early strategic investors and customers
Procurement priorities and approaches to public-private risk sharing
Giving suppliers and investors sufficient confidence to commit capital
Moving beyond bespoke, first-of-a-kind projects towards repeatable and scalable manufacturing
Panel II: Scaling Europe’s Industrial Capacity
What components and technologies must Europe be able to manufacture?
What currently prevents suppliers from investing in fusion capacity?
How can fusion compete with established industries for manufacturing capability and specialist talent?
Competition for capacity with aerospace, space, automotive and other mature sectors
Panel III: Regulation and Cross-Border Collaboration
The development of fusion-specific regulatory regimes across Europe
Progress and divergence between different national approaches
The case for regulatory frameworks designed for fusion rather than adapted from fission
Mutual recognition of standards and supplier qualifications
Developing trusted cross-border supply-chain partnerships
International collaboration and technology transfer
Building on Europe’s industrial expertise developed through ITER
The role of the European Fusion Association’s Regulatory Working Group in supporting greater alignment
Hosted by NextGen Nuclear.
